Joshua Kane, born and educated in Oxfordshire, began his formal training in the world of art and design at Oxford Brookes University. Formerly considering a football career, Joshua was inspired with a new sense of direction via a module on fashion design studied during his Foundation year. Having discovered a definite and exact purpose, he travelled to London to study BA Fashion Design at Kingston University.

Combining his inherent artistic talents, love of fashion and tailoring, it was in Kingston that he first began pursuing his dream of becoming a tailor. In addition to his studies, Joshua trained privately with a Savile Row tailor, and this innate passion for detail, hunger for learning and honing his craft, enabled him to learn the advanced technical skills required to produce his unique menswear designs for which his name would ultimately become synonymous.

Joshua graduated with a First Class Honours degree and immediately on leaving university, established his own small studio in his Islington flat. He began developing his own designs for bespoke suits for the private clients already knocking at his door.

Whilst at Kingston (2006), Joshua had achieved recognition by winning the opportunity to work at Brooks Brothers design studios in New York.  Joshua’s award winning Brooks Brothers designs featured in their London Flagship store window on Regent Street.  Joshua undertook the role of design assistant, fully immersing himself with all aspects of both design and business. On his return to London, Joshua began working with Jaeger, one of Britain’s oldest and most esteemed fashion houses, where he was Assistant Designer for three and a half years. Joshua flourished in this environment of luxury fashion, making industry connections, working closely with suppliers and forging business relationships that he still values today. Joshua’s natural talents, his passion for his craft and sheer hard work earned the respect of his peers, colleagues and directors alike, and elevated him to a position of responsibility far beyond his years.

Following Jaeger, Joshua moved to Burberry, earning the role of Prorsum Designer. His role within Burberry’s most prestigious collection saw him reporting directly to Christopher Bailey on matters of Runway Collections and design concepts. For over three years Joshua designed for the various Burberry Prorsum collections and campaigns.

In 2012 Joshua undertook the role as Senior Designer for Paul Smith, taking great pride in being given the opportunity to work for and alongside one of his childhood icons. Joshua was responsible for overseeing all aspects of design for both the British Collection and Paul Smith London within Menswear. Championing the design of uniquely woven British fabrics featured within the Paul Smith Japanese Collection, Joshua also played a role working on a number of brand collaborations.

Having achieved such a wealth of industry experience, it was inevitable that Joshua would arrive at the point in his career where he wanted to produce the first Joshua Kane Collection. With the help of talented interns, he would now transform his Islington studio into a fully- fledged design studio and business. When Joshua opened the doors he was thrilled to receive immediate enquiries from VIP and celebrity clients eager to own one of his distinctive and beautifully hand crafted sartorial creations.

With demand for his designs outgrowing production capability, Joshua quickly realised the necessity for a larger design premises and the potential for his first retail space. Just months after establishing his label, Joshua opened his Flagship store in Spitalfields, East London in the summer of 2014. Employing classic tailoring methods juxtaposed with a modern, fashion forward sensibility, Joshua Kane’s collections are unique and distinctly British in design. Every luxurious fabric used in his collections is designed by Joshua personally and woven uniquely for him in traditional English mills with their own particular heritage. This heritage is paramount to Joshua’s design ethos but it is his own, distinctive use of colour, pattern and form that create the unmistakable originality of his designs.

To date, Joshua Kane has held four runway shows during LCM receiving wide critical acclaim and featuring in established fashion press such as Vogue and GQ. He has also presented a capsule collection in Zurich in front of a European wide televised audience. The esteem in which Joshua has been held in the fashion world during the few short years since the birth of the brand has been extraordinary, and he has been compared with, and quoted as being, ‘the next Alexander McQueen’.

Joshua has been nominated for various fashion awards since the launch of his label. In 2016 he was short listed for ‘Beyond the Runway’ category in The Fashion Futures Awards 2016, (held by Decoded Fashion in association with the British Fashion Council) for ground- breaking use of media and film for his marketing and retail campaigns.

From fine tailoring to hats, leather jackets to accessories and now introducing women’s wear, Joshua Kane’s designs are synonymous with quality, luxury, style, and individuality but most of all his work represents a desire and passion to create from his heart.
